1. The Impact of Demographic Characteristics on Buying Decision of Organic Foods

Abstract:

The organic food market is one of the fastest growing food sectors in recent period all over the world. The demand for organic food products is dramatically rising in Saudi Arabia as the population becomes more affluent and more educated about health and wellness issues, leading to greater consciousness in food choices and it has transformed the Kingdom into the GCC’s top organic foods market. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s domestic organic and natural foods sector is currently valued at around SAR 1 billion, accounting for 90 per cent of the regional market. The present study examined the impact of demographic characteristics on buying decision of organic foods for residents of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. This study focuses on the impact of health literacy, knowledge and the price of organic foods of consumer's purchasing decision. The sample was collected from 436 participants through an electronic questionnaire. The main findings revealed that there is no relationship between demographic variables and the consumer's willingness to buy organic food. It was also found that health awareness and knowledge of consumers for organic food and organic food prices, factors were linked to the desire of consumers to buy organic food. The main recommendations were; the organic food producers should put more effort on promoting and publicizing the advantages, as well as taking into account the aspects of pricing for those products highlighting the health benefits that accrue to the consumer by the consumption of organic foods.

2. Accounting for Intellectual Capital and its Relationship with Academic Performance

Abstract:

The concept of Intellectual capital had drawn up the attention of many researchers and it is observed that the growing interest in intellectual capital has been shifted from business environments to higher educational environments due to the fact that educational sectors are considered as centers of innovations and production of innovative human capital. The present study aims to examine the effectiveness of intellectual capital and academic performance in the selected academic colleges in Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University (PSAU) and exploring the relationship between the components of intellectual capital and academic performance. For this purpose the author has selected PSAU as a case study and chosen 4 academic colleges. The data was collected through a questionnaire by conducting face-to-face interview. Various statistical methods were used to analyze the data. The study came up with the main findings, that the Intellectual capital in PSAU was managed effectively. Furthermore, the academic performance indicators are also well effective in the academic colleges in PSAU and finally intellectual capital and academic performance have had a significant positive correlation. This evidence shows that all the three components i.e; Human capital, Relational capital and Structural capital show a significant relationship with academic performance but among the three components, the relation of human capital is more prominent.

Abstract:

This paper intends to evaluate the consequences of the real exchange rate system of Pakistan in terms of considering the USA relationship. Research question of the study is whether real exchange rate in Pakistan is being effectively handled to observe the competitiveness of the country in trading with the USA? Time period of the study is January 1987 to April 2015. Authors found that the Pakistani has been very successful in using its exchange rate policy to maintain the country’s competitive position in the bilateral export market with the USA. Political instability, terrorism, bureaucratic cost, easing policies for doing business and their impact may also be measured as it has negative impact on the economic productivity, efficiency and effectiveness on Pakistani economy.

4. Study of Impact of Promotional Activities in Hotel Industry in Rajasthan

Abstract:

Tourism in India is a potential largest contributor in GNP. Tourism sector includes a range of activities i.e. 1) Travel and transport facilities, 2) Accommodation, 3) Food and drink, 4) Entertainment/recreation, 5) Information and assistance and 6) Souvenirs. It is a budding industry, a service originator, an important source of foreign exchange for the nation and an money-making activity that helps local and host communities . The Indian hotel industry, being a direct beneficiary of the growth in the economy and the tourism industry, has also recorded strong growth over the past few years. India is ranked 42nd in the world rankings as per foreign tourism arrivals in the country. In 2012, India secured 12th position among 184 countries in terms of contribution of travel and tourism industry in GDP. Growing numbers of foreign and domestic travelers, encourage hotels to understand their guests’ expectations and develop competitive advantage by focusing on various elements of marketing mix to capture the market share and sustain in competitive era. With the increasing rivalry in the marketplace as well as the customers becoming well informed and choosier, it is vital now that marketing communications of the right message only are made to the right group of target buyers. Keeping this in the mind this specific study was carried out to know the impact and importance of various promotional tools on customer satisfaction level and to find out comparative differences regarding promotion mix among the sampled five star hotels.

Abstract:

The study aims to identify and understand the benefits of the organic food over the human health and the environment. It also focuses on the differences between the organic food and conventional food. The paper has been prepared based on primary and secondary information collected through observation method and reviewing literature, previous studies & interviews. The study finds out that organic food process is a new concept in the agricultural system of the countries all over the world. With the help of this study, both the farmers and the consumers will be able to learn about the benefits of organic food than the traditional food and, therefore-they can make the right decisions for them.

Abstract:

The micro, small and medium enterprises have played a very important role in the development of country. MSME occupies a position of prominence and constitute an essential ingredient in the development of Indian economy. In the state of Uttarakhand, the MSME has emerged as a dynamic segment. This Paper aims to measure the growth pattern, capital invested and employment generation through micro, small and medium enterprises in Uttarakhand. The research is purely based on secondary data and carried out in all the 13 districts of Uttarakhand. 8 year’s data has been taken for this paper from 2008 to 2015 of manufacturing sector. Three hypotheses were formulated and tested using T-test. The empirical results indicate that there is a growth in the number of enterprises established, capital invested and employment generated. But the pace of growth is not constant and declined during some years from the studied time period and to overcome this issue promotion of microfinance is required and it could be sufficient to help them get over the level of poverty under the national standard.

7. Relationship between Insurance and Economic Growth in India

Abstract:

For economic development, investments are necessary; investments are made out of savings. Insurance Company is a major instrument for the mobilization of savings of people particularly from the middle and lower income groups. The savings of peoples convert into investment by insurance company for economic growth. The object of the study is to find the relation between insurance sector and Indian economical growth. How much contribution of insurance is in economical development of country and what is the future expectation growth in economy through insurance sector? On the basis of this study the result come out that insurance sector has a strong relation with India’s economic growth and insurance sector contributed by 14 % approximately in Indian GDP. Contribution of insurance industry has increase year by year in Indian GDP. Only five percent Indian population insured so that insurance industry have a lot of scope in Indian for future growth.

8. Impact of Global Financial Meltdown on Indian Economy

Abstract:

India started its economic planning in 1951-52, in order to attain a derisible growth rate. In 1966-67, Green Revolution highly impacted the food grains production that made India self-reliant. In 1991, India adopted, New Economic Policy (Liberalization, Privatization and Globalization), which brought remarkable change. The growth rate in GDP by more than nine percent was registered in 2005-08. However, due to global meltdown in 2008 and 2011, Indian economy shown negative impacts on growth rate of GDP, Industrial production and others macro-economic indicators. The overall growth rate of Indian economy was 6.5 percent against 8.4 percent achieved in previous two years. In 2012-13 Q1, growth rate was at 5.5 percent compared to 8.0 percent in 2011-12 Q1. The slowdown is attributable both to domestic as well as global factors. Crisil report warns that the economic slowdown and falling labour Intensity will force individuals to either work in forms or stay unemployed as 25 percent; fewer jobs will be created in the manufacturing and service sector between 2012-13 and 2018-19. India’s Industrial sector has suffered from the depressed demand condition in its export markets as well as from suppressed domestic demand due to slow generation of employment. 9. An Analytical Study of Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill in India

Abstract:

This Bill replaces an earlier one introduced in 2011 by the erstwhile government which had since lapsed. In a positive development towards India’s progress into a nationwide unified market and removing trade barriers in the form of cascading effects of taxation, the Central Government tabled the 122nd Constitution Amendment Bill, 2014 on the introduction of Goods and Services Tax (‘GST’) before the lower house of Parliament on December 19, 2014. This Bill replaces an earlier bill introduced in 2011 by the erstwhile government which had since lapsed. In this study, we have summarized the key structural features of the proposals contained in this Bill, and how it differs from erstwhile bill introduced in 2011 along with our macro-level analysis. We have also provided a reference to the key next steps which this Bill would need to navigate through to reach fruition and our thoughts on how the industry should view this.

Abstract:

The accretion in colossal NPAs (Non-Performing Assets or Non-Performing Loans) in Indian banks has been considered a major challenging problem. In order to overcome the problem of NPAs large number of initiatives were taken by the Government of India, RBI and various Financial Institutions. Nevertheless, problem is still unsolved. On the same way of NPAs management to accelerate the recovery rate and to overcome legal problems of collateral property. ‘The Securitization and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Security Interest Act-2002 (Securitization Act, 2002) came into force in 2002.This paper assesses, the performance of Securitization Act, 2002 as a most expected and effective recovery channel. At the initial stage of incursion of Securitization Act it was seems very effective but latter on consequences are not as expected.

11. Measurement of Job Satisfaction Among Teachers: A Comparative Study of Public and Private Schools

Abstract:

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to find out the level of job satisfaction among male and female teachers of public and private schools of Chandauli District in U.P. An attempt has been made to find out the relationship between demographic and job satisfaction dimensions. Design/methodology/approach – A sample of 200 teachers was collected through convenient sampling from the various schools of Chandauli District. For analysis and interpretation of data, statistical tools like Percentage, Mean, Standard Deviation and Independent t-test and chi-square test were used to test the hypotheses. Findings – Female teachers are more satisfied with their jobs as compare to men based on the four dimensions i.e., salary, promotion structure, support from the superior authority and participation in decision-making. Study reveals that private school teachers are more satisfied than the public school teachers in respect of better working conditions, physical facilities which are provided to them. Out of demographic variables age and experience found to be positively associated with job satisfaction whereas gender and marital status has no significant relation. Research limitations/implications – The study is only confined to school teachers of Chandauli District on selective demographic factors. A further research can be done to see the relationship between job satisfaction and commitment among teachers in rural or urban areas. Originality/value – Seeing the tough job of attracting and retaining teachers in rural areas, it is imperative for the education department to have knowledge about their employees’ job satisfaction. So that improvements can be made to motivate them.

Abstract:

International investment that reflect the objectives of a resident entity in one economy obtaining a lasting interest and control in an enterprise resident in an economy other than that of the foreign direct investor. Realizing the importance of contribution that private foreign capital can make to the economic development, the industrial policy Resolution ushered in major changes to attract foreign investment in India, such a positive and open-door policy of India towards foreign investment and technology transfer has as compared to the earlier policy. The enlarged spheres of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) entry now include mining, oil exploration, refining and marketing, power generation and telecommunication, insurance, defense, print media, tourist, hotel management and rural development including agriculture. Foreign investments have provided great impetus for growth to Indian economy especially in the post liberalization period. Continuous flow of foreign investments across almost all sectors has proven that foreign investors have faith in growing Indian market. India is the 3rd largest economy of the world in terms of purchasing power parity making it lucrative to investors from all over the World. Though there has been stiff opposition from various quarters on the issue of FDI but the government of India, has been trying hard to do away with the FDI caps for majority of the sectors. Abstract:

The Indian economy has seen a tremendous growth in the recent past years. The Small-Scale Industries occupy a place of strategic importance in Indian economy in view of its Considerable contribution to employment, production and exports. However, since 1991, Small-Scale Industries in India find themselves in an intensely competitive environment due to domestic economic liberalization and dilution of sector specific protective measures. The small and medium scale enterprises are known as the backbone of the industrial growth and development. The development of this sector has promoted production, generated employment and has helped in generating a major share of exports in the economy. This paper probes the Performance evaluation of small-scale industries in India after liberalization and analyses of its growth performance in terms of units, production, employment and exports. The study is based on secondary data. The tools used in this study are simple mean method, percentage method, time series method and ANOVA method. The finding of the study is that there is significant relationship between production, employment and units of SSI. The paper conclude that policy recommendations can ensure the sustenance and competitive growth of small-scale Industries in India.

Abstract:

The existence of a strong and recognized trade union is a prerequisite to industrial peace. Decisions taken through the process of collective bargaining and negotiations between employer and trade unions are more influential. Trade unions play an important role and are helpful in effective communication between the workers and the management. They provide the advice and support to ensure that the differences of opinion do not turn into major conflicts. The central function of a trade union is to represent people at work. But they also have a wider role in protecting their interests. They also play an important role in organizing courses for their members on a wide range of matters. Seeking a healthy and safe working environment is also prominent feature of the trade union. Labor unions developed to grant employees equal bargaining power with their employers, who traditionally had the ability to exclusively set the terms and conditions of work and pay. Unions represent workers within a given industry in negotiations with their employers. Since the union comprises a group of workers, it has a greater voice than if employees were dealing with employers individually. The National Labor Relations Act guarantees employees’ right to bargain collectively through their chosen labor union representatives. Unions can organize strikes, boycotts, go-slows and sit-ins to get employers to consider their proposals. In this research paper we focus on every aspect of trade union and labor management relations of BHEL. The finding of the study is that Trade Union done an excellent job in BHEL to protect the interest of workers and employees.

Abstract:

Corruption is a double jeopardy for the poor, who are hardest hit by economic decline, are most reliant on the provision of public services and are least capable of paying the extra costs associated with bribery, fraud and the misappropriation of economic privileges. This paper provides a study of the current status of corruption in the country, various forms of bribery faced and efforts made by them toward the compliance program. It also indicates the impact of corruption on the economy, sector-wise corruption and how poor enforcement of existing laws has led to corruption. What is interesting to know in the paper are the different ways through which manipulations are done for their short term gains. There This paper analysed various scams and movements. Abstract:

In the economic development of a country Pharmaceutical sector plays a vital role. This study attempts to evaluate job satisfaction of employees in different pharmaceutical companies of Uttarakhand. It focuses on the relative importance of job satisfaction factors and their impacts on the overall job satisfaction of employees. It also investigates the impacts of pharmaceutical type, work experience, age and sex differences on the attitudes toward job Satisfaction. The result shows that salary, efficiency in work, fringe supervision and co-worker relation are the most important factors contributing to job satisfaction. The overall job satisfaction of the employees in pharmaceutical sector is at the positive level. The nature of business operation, the work culture and the level of job satisfaction have undergone lot of changes for the pharmaceutical companies. As a business proposition initiated huge investment, whereas majority of their stocks is going down bringing a high level of apprehension related to job security among its employees. This research paper highlights some of these problems and presents a picture of level of job satisfaction among employees of pharmaceutical companies. Abstract:

Indian economy has been in the picture of a major restructuring on its way to globalization. Increased economic activity is posing major challenges and also at the same time, it is offering numerous opportunities. Human resource development (HRD) is a subject of great relevance in a developing and most populous country like India. Of all the resources, the “Human Resources” is the most crucial and difficult to tackle and without these resources, the development of physical/financial/technical resources of the country is not possible. The problems of Human Resource Policies in Moser Baer India Limited at present is also psychological - both the parties mistrusting each other. If the employers begin to treat the workers as equal partners with themselves in production and do not keep the same attitude of aloofness as they do at present, much discontentment among the workers would be removed leading to industrial peace in the country. Too many Labour Laws and much Government interference cannot solve the problem under a democratic set up, rather it may irritate the parties. A strong trade union movement, schemes of workers’ co-operation and participation in management, atmosphere of trust and respect on both sides and implementation of a policy of human relations in industry, will go a long way in the establishment of industrial peace in the country. If India is to achieve world-class productivity levels, labor administration and judicial system has to be made accountable and effectively responsive and efficient. Companies need to focus on creating a positive work culture that optimize respect of rules, dignity and esteem of employees, quality of life and above all accountability and commitment to productivity, quality and cost effectiveness. . In this research paper we studied the various human resource policies of Moser Baer India Limited.

Abstract:

MSME’s play very critical role in achieving higher industrial growth as well as in employment generation. Jobs generated by MSME outnumber the large companies. Organised sector and larger companies employ only 1.25 crore individuals. Clearly, the potential to harness and nurture these micro businesses is vast and the government recognizes this. Mudra Bank has a great potential for achieving inclusive growth and ‘Make In India’ objectives. It is going to spur rural economy and encourage entrepreneurs. MUDRA Bank is bound to spur growth of the MSME Sector and help them increase their contribution to the country’s gross domestic product from its current level of 38 percent. Union minister for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) Kalraj Mishra said that MUDRA Bank would prevent small entrepreneurs from the exploitation of money lenders. In the present paper, the author tried to find out various challenges to be faced by MUDRA Bank relating to provide finance to MSME. The author also made serious efforts to find out the prospects bank to provide more funds to MSME sector.

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) plays a vital role in the speedy development of developing countries like India. Foreign Direct Investment plays an important role of bridging the gap between the available and required resources. In Indian context, FDI helps in achieving self-reliance in various sectors and in overall development of economy. The present study found that Foreign Direct Investment played a tremendous role to boost our economy but there are some thrust area like Health, Education, Medical, Road Construction, Public Transport, Agriculture etc. where Foreign Direct Investment is yet to play an effective role. Foreign Direct Investment is absolutely indispensable in new emerging global economic scenario but we need to limit its bad effect and taking into account the concept of inclusive growth. 23. Arab-U.S. Migration: How Do Oil Prices Influence People Flows?

Abstract:

The Arab Gulf region is unique as compared to other parts of the World because its economic livelihood depends greatly on World price of a particular export good – oil. The standard migration model is clear on the influence. We hypothesize that exchange rates, commodity prices and geopolitical instability can affect international migration. If migrants send their earnings to home, then appreciation of the destination country’s currency will make remittances more valuable in the home country, raising the likelihood of migration. Higher commodity prices in the home country can, on the one hand, discourage migration because of improved labor market opportunities at home but on the other, encourage migration because greater prosperity makes relocation more affordable. Some parts of the World, for example the Middle East, have experienced considerable geopolitical instability, which may have induced greater levels of supply-push migration to more stable parts of the World. Our test case is the migration of persons from the Arab region to the USA during 1992-2004, a period characterized by volatility in Arab-U.S. exchange rates, oil prices and political conditions. We estimate a fixed effects model of the Arab emigration rate using a sample of 182 observations, which includes 14 countries (10 Arab and 4 others in a control group). One of our control variables is the real relative return to remittances, which is the ratio of the exchange rate-adjusted real wage in the USA to the exchange rate- adjusted real wage in the UK. Our econometric results demonstrate that: (i) Arab demand for U.S. visas is positively and significantly related to the real return to remitting, although the relationship is stronger for total visa demand than for employment visa demand; (ii) A one-dollar increase in the real price of oil from its mean will increase the flow of Arab migrants to the USA by over 505 persons; (iii) For every Arab who has migrated in the past, rough

Abstract:

Banking sector has a very important place in our Indian economy. After nationalisation, the Indian banking system has considerably developed with a large network of branches and wide range of financial instruments. The banking industry is growing today with a rapid speed and competition having more than 11,75,150 employees and 1,09,811 branches across India, as well as, 171 branches in abroad; managing deposits of Rs. 67504.54 billion and bank credit of Rs. 52604.59 billion. The net profit of banks operating in India was Rs. 1027.51 billion against Rs. 9148.60 billion turnover during 2012-13. The amount of the profit indicates the efficiency of the organization. As the larger the profit higher the growth rate. The profitability depends on the effective utilization of funds which ensure maximisation of profit for growth. The banking sector is very important for Indian economy, therefore effective working and growth of banks are crucial for its economic health. The amount of the profit is a prominent indicator that indicates efficiency in the banks as in any other organization. In banks profitability depends more on the effective utilization of funds to procure maximum profit and growth, which is the focal area of this paper. As Indian banking sector is mainly classified into public sector and private sector banks, so as this study is an effort to review the growth rate of both types of banks, ie., a comparative study of growth in the HDFC Bank (from private sector) and in PNB (from public sector). The study is performed by analysis of growth in both of the banks for a period of 10 years, from 2004 to 2014. The main parameters used for analysis of growth in banks are Net Profit Growth, Net Assets Growth, Return on Assets (ROA) and Non Performing Assets (NPA).
