1. Testing Hypothesis on Theory of Social Networking, Community Banking and Empowerment of People: A Conceptual View

Abstract:

Poor and underprivileged people should come under the banking system so that equitable distribution and social justice can be achieved. Informal sector is playing vital role than formal sector of the country. Micro savings should under the working purview of the micro investment for which social networking and community banking is needed. Research question of the study is whether social networking and community banking can transform micro savings to micro investment? The theory was developed for considering financial inclusion, to attain equitable distribution and social justice. A theory was developed by Ali (2016) which need to be tested. The theory was also interlinked with some goals of Sustainable development goal. The theory which is in a process of development by Muhammad Mahboob Ali on Social networking, community banking and empowerment of people may be empirically tested in different countries of the world and also at Bangladesh by various researchers to give a structural formation, cost-benefit analysis, shadow pricing, validation and reliability of the theory in the real life scenario both global and domestic perspectives with a request to inform the result to the author.

2. Comparative Analysis of Private Sector Banks: An Application of Camel Model

Abstract:

Indian banking system has transformed in recent years due to globalization in the world market, which has resulted in fierce competition. In this article, an attempt has been made to find out the difference between the two private sector banks namely at AXIS Bank and HDFC Bank. Various commercial banks are operating in India. The banks in India have been categorized into Public sector, Private sector and foreign banks. For the purpose of profitability analysis, for comparing capital adequacy we have selected samples of two private sector banks by applying CAMEL analysis technique. In the two private sector banks data we have applied t-test to measure its performance efficiency. As per the derived data, we can say that in net profit margin and return on asset we have acceptance of the null hypothesis, as it is saying that there is no significance level of difference between the two selected samples. On the other side for CAR, Return on Net Worth, Return on Long Term Fund, is having the rejection of null hypothesis as it is saying that there is significance of difference between two selected samples.

3. Impact of Social Media Advertisement on Consumer Behaviour of Millennial - A Case of Electronic Gadgets

Abstract:

Social media is changing the way information is communicated to and from people around the world. The rapid use of social media is changing the way companies respond to consumer’s needs and wants and increasing the opportunities for companies to market their products and services in a personalized way. However, there is still limited research to answer some of the key issues concerning the extent to which social media advertisements is being utilized in firms and their effectiveness in marketing from a business perspective. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of social media advertisement on millennial and the perceived effects of these marketing practices on electronic gadgets. Data was collected by e-mail questionnaire with Information technology professionals of social media user. The empirical results showed that social media advertisements help the companies to create and enhance brand awareness and in turn this leads to increasing sales performance of companies. Additionally, the study found that most of Millennial consumer behaviour affected by social media advertisement rather than only blog or review.

4. Performance Appraisal of Selected State Level Power Distribution Public Enterprises in Uttar Pradesh

Abstract:

The paper provides an analytical study on the “Performance Appraisal of the Selected State Level Power Distribution Public Enterprises in Uttar Pradesh”. A critical study has been done on the three power sector Public Enterprises as first Madhyanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (MVVNL), second Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited DVVNL and third Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Ltd. (PuVVNL). We have used Secondary data available from 2009 to 2016, taken from the Bureau of Public Enterprises & CAG report on Power Distribution SLPEs. This paper is used to show the Consumer Satisfaction, Production and Distribution Capacity and Required Capacity of power in detail. On the basis of the present study it is fond out that performance of power distribution companies in Uttar Pradesh is not satisfactory and there is much difference between planned and required capacity. For the improvement of performance strict rule and regulation should be passed and cheap and flexible programs should be followed.

5. Saudi Economic Development through Corporate Governance@ Vision 2030

Abstract:

The drive behind the Saudi transformational-economic plan is due to a variety of factors such as the drop in the crude oil prices in 2015-2016, OPEC’s member’s disagreement on reducing productions, the discovery of shale oil in North America…etc. In spite of the new changes on Saudi Arabia main oil- revenue generating mechanism, McKinsey’s report of 2015 is suggesting that their proposed “productivity-led transformation model of the Saudi economy” is capable of: 1) diversifying the Saudi economy, 2) creating new productivity and growth venues, 3) doubling Saudi GDP, 4) inventing as many as six million new Saudi jobs by 2030. Moreover, such undertaking is estimated by McKinsey to cost $4 trillion in investments. In addition, McKinsey’s report allegedly highlights eight existing sectors namely: mining & metals, petrochemicals, manufacturing, retail and wholesale trade, tourism and hospitality, health care, finance, and construction and Planning are capable of contributing more than 60 percent of the overall growth needed to double Saudi GDP by 2030. The study aims as well to review the most important criteria and different comprehensive principles of governance in light of the institutional framework that organizes its work nature & political, legal, institutional, privatization and cultural factors which might influence the implementation of Saudi vision of 2030. Consequently, This paper reviews the relationships between corporate governance (CG) and economic development in Saudi Arabia and presented descriptive analysis on the basis of secondary sources such as from Saudi Central Department of Statistics and Information & Saudi Ministry of Economy and concluded by identifying major policy recommendations and research issues that require further study.

6. Women Entrepreneurship Development in Tribal Areas in Odisha: An Effective Means of Women Empowerment

Abstract:

Women constitute not only half of the world’s population but also sway the growth of the remaining half. They produce half of the world’s food supply. They account for 60% of the work force. The emergence of women entrepreneurs and their contribution to the national economy is quite visible in India. In India the self-employed women account for only 7.2% of the self-employment persons in the country. Majority of them are engaged in the recognised sector like agriculture, handcrafts, handlooms and cottage based industries. The socio-economic features of the tribal are significantly different from non-tribals. They are not very much entrepreneurial in true sense of the term but, there exists traditional entrepreneurship which is manifested through simple technology that fits with their external environment. It is fact that tribal’s are yet to be a part and parcel of the modern economic system because of the lack of education, inaccessible habitation and lack of awareness. Therefore, they operate themselves in a separate economic system which is fully different from the mainstream economy. Culturally and geographically these communities differ in language, occupation, child rearing etc. Odisha has one of the highest incidences of poverty in the country with 45% below the poverty line compared to all India average of 23%.Poverty and backwardness of women in the state are mammoth in proportions that need for redressed. The study has been undertaken in the tribal dominated Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. The tribal people in the study area were involved in different agriculture based entrepreneurial activities. It is revealed from the study that majority of the respondents belong to low innovativeness, low farm decision-making ability, medium level of knowledge, medium risk taking ability, medium level of self confidence, medium level of management orientation, high leadership ability, medium achievement motivation category.

7. Critical Evaluation of Advertising Effect on the Consumer Behaviour towards Passengers Cars

This paper explores the consumer behaviour towards passenger cars in Moradabad Region. The scope of the study is limited to certain advertising effect on important consumer behavioural aspects like information search and evaluation, brand preference and brand loyalty and factors of motivation. Understanding the customer’s satisfaction of the product will help the automobile manufacturer in developing their products to meet customer’s needs and designing the proper marketing programs and strategy.

8. Efficient Market Hypothesis: A Critical Review of Theory and Its Implications for Investment Decision

Abstract:

The efficient market hypothesis is concerned with the behaviour of prices in asset markets. The term ‘efficient market’ was initially applied to the stock market, but the concept was soon generalized to other asset markets. The efficient market hypothesis states that asset prices in financial markets should reflect all available information; as a consequence, prices should always be consistent with ‘fundamentals’. In this paper, an attempt has been made to analyze the critical review of theory of Efficient Market Hypothesis and its implications for investment decision. The present study is entirely based on the availability and utilization of secondary data and literature. The study made use of various articles published in Journals and Newspapers of national repute. Some reputed handbooks related with finance are also be used. Our aim is to discuss the main ideas behind the hypothesis, and to provide a guide as to which of its predictions seem to be borne out by empirical evidence, and which do not. In examining the empirical evidence, we concentrate on the stock and foreign exchange markets, though much of the discussion is relevant to other asset markets, such as the bond and derivatives markets.

9. An Analysis of Indian Cement Industry Based on Profitability Performance

Abstract:

Profitability is the ability of a business to earn a profit. A profit is what is left of the revenue a business generates after it pays all expenses directly related to the generation of the revenue, such as producing a product, and other expenses related to the conduct of the business activities. This is one of the major issues for the investors as well as management because it finds out the various ratio-such as Net Profit Ratio; Return on Equity; Return on Capital Employed and Return on Net Worth, related with the investors and management, which make the business comparable to the peer companies of the industry. This paper makes an attempt to provide an insight into the profitability performance of 10 leading cement manufacturers in India. It also makes an effort to observe and test the inter firm’s industry position. Profitability ratios are ranked and selected into a uniform boundary to compare their performance. The study is based on secondary data collected from published annual reports cover a five years’ period (2013 to 2017). The available data have been analyzed by using important profitability ratios and some statistical tools such as Mean, SD and Rank are also used with the help of SPSS 23 software.

10. India-Saudi Arabia Partnership Getting Stronger

Abstract:

India-Saudi Arabia partnership has improved significantly in recent times and is expected to gain its momentum in the years to come. It is the common interests and the mutual desire that have been the main driving force behind this partnership. The economic complementarities are helping this relationship to grow stronger. Saudi Arabia is now an important part of India’s foreign policy and vice-versa. With a changed global geo-political environment and increasing economic interdependence, Saudi Arabia today considers India not only a strategic economically, but also a potential ‘bridging power’ that can play a constructive role for regional peace and stability. The paper argues that the relationship has the potential to not only serve the interests of both sides but on a large scale it can bring peace, security and prosperity in the region. This way the paper explores the future prospects of the partnership between India and Saudi Arabia. First, the paper highlights the strategic significance of the partnership. Then the common interests of both countries are discussed. This is followed by an analysis of the political, economic and defence relations between the two sides. In the final section, the paper makes an assessment of the long-term areas of cooperation between the two countries.

11. India and UK Trade

Abstract:

As we know that India and the united kingdom have been close allies for long-time. India and UK bilateral investment ties have continued to remain strong. UK is the third largest investor in India with accumulative FDI investment of $23.10 billion between 2000 to march 2016. India received $24.91 billion in FDI equity inflows from EU between April 2012 and May 2015. Thus, the EU along with the UK both remain important to India. Given the good trade and investment relations between the two countries, an India-UK FTA has been on the anvil since 2006 with several rounds of discussions and no concrete outcomes. However, it is being opined by Indian industry that the FTA could be easier to accomplish at a bilateral level following Brexit. According to a study carried out by the Commonwealth Secretariat post-Brexit vote a well negotiated FTA between the UK and India has the potential to increase bilateral trade by 26%. The UK’s membership of the EU may have acted as an obstacle to developing trade and investment partnerships with the rest of the world. However, post Brexit vote it is expected that the UK will be in a better position to forge closer trading ties. However, the Indian commerce ministry has made it clear that India and the UK can work on a FTA only after the latter is officially out of the EU, but the two countries have set up a joint working group to deliberate upon ways to strengthen commercial relationship. To know the relationship between India and UK pre and post Brexit paper has divided into two parts. Secondary data has been used to define relationship.

12. Knowledge Management and Innovation: An Integrative View

15. India's Export Performance in Third Decade after Liberalization (From 2011-12 to 2016-17)

This is evident with the fact that after trade reforms ( Liberalization) in 1991 India's export started rising gradually and from the third decade there is a surprising increase in the export in the term of value. The study aims to analyse these changing trends in India’s export volume composition and directions during the third decade commencing from 2011-12. To conduct the study secondary data is collected from several government reports. 16. Financial Inclusion Initiatives in India

Abstract:

“Financial inclusion broadly defined, refers to universal access to a wide range of financial services at a reasonable cost, these include not only banking products but also other financial services such as insurance and equity products”, (Raghuram Rajan committee). Thus, financial inclusion is nothing but the broading of financial services to those people who do not have access to formal financial service sector, the deepening of financial services for people who have minimal financial services and greater financial literacy and consumer protection so that, those who are offered the products can make appropriate choices. Therefore, we can rightly said that delivery of financial services including banking services and credit at an affordable cost to the vast sections of disadvantaged and low income groups. The concept of financial inclusion has been prevailing in India from past 44 years. Major steps have been taken by both the central and state government and RBI. A large number of studies have been made so far on financial inclusion in India, yet some gaps still persist, there are still problems of access to finance, credit, poverty, illiteracy and indebtedness etc., The prime object of the present study is to give a brief understandings about initiatives undertaken by our central and state government and RBI to uplift the poor and disadvantaged people by providing them with customized financial products and services.

18. Analytical Study of Foreign Trade Performance in India

Abstract:

Before the beginning of liberalization, India was largely and intentionally isolated from world market to protect its economy and achieve self reliance. Foreign trade was subject to import tariffs, export taxes and quantitative restrictions, while foreign direct investment was restricted by upper limit equity participation, restriction on transfer of technology, export obligations and government approvals. Since liberalization, India’s international trade increased rapidly with the contribution of total trade in goods and services to the GDP rising from 16% in 1990-91 to 48.8% in 2014-15. India’s major trading partner are the European union, China, United States and United Arab Emirates. Major export commodities included Gems & Jewellery, Textiles & Allied Products, Chemical & Related Product, Petroleum Crude & Products, Agriculture & Allied Products etc. Major Import commodities included Petroleum Crude & Products, Electronic Items, Gems & Jewellery, Chemical & Related Product, Machinery & Base Metals etc. After economic liberalization, India achieved 6-7% average GDP growth annually. Nowadays, Indian economy became world’s fastest growing major economy.

19. Importance-Peformance Analysis in A Selected Multi-speciality Hospital - Patients' Perception

Abstract:

An Importance performance analysis (IPA) is the best tool for recognizing the gap between the services provider and perception of the consumer. In this paper, we examine the perception of the patients of a healthcare center having different health care quality service attributes. The result of the analysis manifests a very different perception of the patients against the quality of service attributes of the health care center. The ramifications for research were discussed and recommendations are also mentioned for future researchers. This study exemplify the practicality of the model as a managerial tool, which distinguishes the areas to which marketing resources should allocated in order to ameliorate the quality of health care service providers.

20. A Study of Policies of Management of Material in McDonalds and Taj Hotel

Abstract:

The material management concept advocates integrating all major activities, which contribute material cost to a single department. In this concept the material management department is responsible for purchasing, inventory control, stores and other related activities. Many times in corporate activity, there is compartmentalization of basic management functions concerned with materials. The purchasing department operates separately and other areas like stores and inventory control operate independently. This creates conflicting objectives from the overall organizational point of view e.g. purchasing department may prefer to buy large quantities on discount without considering the warehousing and carrying costs. The primary goal of materials management is to obtain materials at lowest price alongwith consideration of consistency in quality and supply. Another Goal is to maintain a minimum inventory of materials so that minimum working capital is blocked in inventory. The objective here is to ensure availability of raw material without adversely affecting the smooth flow of production. At the same time, quality of raw materials must be consistent and above all minimum funds should be blocked in all sorts of inventories. The task of material management is not only important but is a complex one. It requires integration of various departments where inventories are used, produced or kept. This is why usually it is advantageous to have integrated materials management systems.

21. Indian Vision of Political Economy

Abstract:

The development of Indian economy was based on socialist-inspired policies after independence which has rapidly changed with the liberalization of economy in the 1990s. Liberalization has been the same irrespective of which party headed the government. This was affected by changes of government and by growing uncertainty over what role planning could usefully perform in a more liberal economy. This story of the Indian economy casts light on the gradual process of economic change in a democratic polity. Politics in a democracy produce a shift from a high degree of state control directed towards self-reliant industrial development, to a policy paradigm that emphasized the economical growth. It is this shift that has accelerated economic growth in India. Democratic participation in India could be playing a silent role in making the growth story more inclusive. Make in India is an initiative launched by the Government of India to encourage national, as well as multi-national companies to manufacture their products in India that results growth in Indian economy. With the change in democratic pattern of the Indian economy, the research paper throws light on the vision of India’s political economy. It is a notion that all was not good before the ‘reforms’ and all began to change thereafter. For a fitting study, the research paper discusses the Indian economy through the perspective of political trends.

23. Impact of Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 on Effective and Timely Recovery from Big Loan Defaulters

Abstract:

The current legal and institutional framework does not aid lenders in effective and timely recovery or restructuring of defaulted assets and causes undue strain on the Indian credit system. Recognising that reforms in the bankruptcy and insolvency regime the Government introduced the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code Bill in November 2015, drafted by a specially constituted 'Bankruptcy Law Reforms Committee' under the Ministry of Finance. The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code passed by the Parliament is a welcome overhaul of the existing framework dealing with insolvency of corporate, individuals, partnerships and other entities. It paves the way for much needed reforms while focusing on creditor driven insolvency resolution.

24. Effects of Economic Factors on Working Women in Banking Industry (A Comparative Study between Public and Private Sector Banks)

Abstract:

India is a country with diverse traditions and customs. In all the religions, women hold a venerable position. Unfortunately, since ages, the role of Women of the early centuries were mostly confined to their kitchens and those who were employed worked in factories, farms or shop works. Very few women had the access to higher education and they were forced to be at the mercy of their fathers’ or husbands’ attitudes towards women and work. The fast developing knowledge economy has given place for more number of women to be enlightened by higher education. Education has not only empowered them but also has given them robust careers. With brain power being the requisite skill in this knowledge era, rather than endurance or physical strength, the women workers seem to flood into every industry on par with men. But this has indeed become a tough challenge for women as they have to perform a lot of duties in home and office as well. As working women get married, they have additional responsibilities and when they become mothers, they have to manage the primary care of children and extended family and are thus, under greater pressure to continue on a career path. Working mothers of today fulfil family responsibilities and also try to remain fully involved in their careers coping up with the competing demands of their multiple roles. 25. IFCI : The First Financial Institution of India: An Overview

Abstract:

1948, the year of IFCI’s birth, was a seminal year in development banking, not only in India but also all over the world. The World Bank at that time was just three years old, while Kreditanstalt-fur-weideraufau (KFW) of Germany was born in the same year. It was on Ist July 1948 that IFCI opened its doors for business. It was incorporated as a company under the Companies Act, 1956 on 21st May, 1993, the name of Industrial Finance Corporation of India was also changed to "IFCI Ltd" w.e.f. October 1999. The main objective of this study is to analyze the working of IFCI Ltd. A descriptive-analytical research methodology is applied. Various statistical techniques are used in this study. The study reveals that the performance of IFCI ltd shows a mixed picture. Growing NPAs is any concern as in case of IFCI Ltd. too is one of the biggest problems. On the other hand, it significantly contributes in the development of industrial sector. Some concrete suggestions have also been given to improve the financial position so that it may prove itself that old is gold.

A banking institution is indispensable in the modern society. It plays a pivotal role in the economic development of a country and forms the core of the money market for the country. The Capital Adequacy framework of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) which was adopted by the G 10 countries in 1990 and by the rest of the world thereafter, has been the single most successful attempt in the move towards convergence of international standards in banking, enabling cross-country assessments and comparisons of internationally active banks. Every industry needs capital to run the business activities. Particularly in SSI, the enterprise is going to collapse without adequate supply of capital. With the introduction of economic liberalization, privatization and globalization the whole scene of Indian financial market has changed. Similarly, the role of banking sector has changed dramatically. The banking sector performs three primary functions in an economy; first, the operation of the payment system, second, the mobilization of savings and finally, the allocation of savings to investment projects. The banking system which constitutes the core of the financial sector plays a critical role in transmitting monetary policy impulses to the entire economic system. An efficient banking structure can promote greater amount of investment which can further help to achieve a faster growth rate of economy. Worldwide experience confirms that countries with well developed and market oriented free banking system grow faster and more consistently.

In India, GST replaced almost all the indirect taxes and brought a common market for easy tax structure and simple tax payment. It is being assumed by the leading Market Players that the cost of tax on all the commodities will lower as the result of implementation of GST. GST is commonly applied to both goods and services in a comprehensive manner. It is thus, a value-added tax levied at all points of the supply chain. Approximately 17 taxes have been eliminated with their comprehensive effects through GST Regime. The complications under Previous Indirect Taxation System have been made easy and simplified upto an unexpected results. The incidence of tax is spreaded over to all. And, the divide between the central taxation and state taxation is clearly demarcated through GST Regime. Now, the Government is able to maintain the entire undirect tax records through online electronic system for more transparent and good governance. Government can reduce administrative comliance and effectively run tax net in the country. 31. Expanding Scope of India-US Military-to-Military Cooperation

India and the United States at present enjoy strategic partnership on a multi-dimensional aspects and the foremost being the defence and security cooperation. Joint military exercises form an important component of the unprecedented developments that have witnessed in India-US defence relations over the last more than one decade. With every passing year, India-US military-to-military exercises have gained significant momentum and expanded its scope to cope with the contemporary security challenges facing the world. India and the United States have institutionalized the Malabar series of naval exercises plus the army and air force series of exercises which are being held on a regular basis. However, at present, navy-to-navy cooperation appears to be the most robust in terms of frequency of exercises and personnel exchanges being concluded on a regular basis. The increasing number of military-to-military exercises involving all the three branches is a reflection to the gaining security understanding between the two countries. The paper argues that the expanding scope of the joint military exercises is in response to India’s emerging military capabilities and its readiness to play a global role to meet the global challenges of the twenty-first century. The paper attempts to make an analysis on the progress made so far in the directions of joint military-to-military exercises between India and the United States. Besides, it also discusses the advantage of such military exercises to India.

33. Financial Inclusion through Micro Finance: Jimma - Ethiopia

Abstract:

Micro finance institutions (MFIs) make important contributions to economic, political and social development of any country. The aim of this study was to find out the coverage of financial management practices employed by the MFIs and their effect on financial performance of MFIs. The specific objectives of this study were to evaluate effects of independent variables of cash management practices, Account Receivables practices, Budget management practices, Internal control, source of finance, Accounting information systems and financial reporting and analysis practices on financial performance of MFIs in Jimma Zone. The study used both primary and secondary data. Primary data were collected through questionnaires administered from MFIs employees and interview of branch managers. Secondary data were collected from yearly or quarterly published reports, journal of articles, AEMFI reports and other relevant official reports. A total of 66 samples were selected using judgmental sampling techniques. Descriptive and inferential statistics of chi-square test of independence (significance) were applied in the study. The findings indicated that the above independent variables have significant (positive) relation with financial performance of MFIs which is measured by ROA. Finally, the researcher recommended: as means to discharge responsibility and accountability and to show service giving efforts, operational efficiency and effectiveness to contribution to the development endeavor of the country, they should establish a well organized financial management practices, Board should monitor regularly the financial management system, and donors should give capacity building training and transfer funds as per the original plan for MFIs employees.

34. A Socio Economic Analysis of Coir Workers in Kanyakumari District

Indian coir industry is an important cottage industry contributing significantly to the economy to the major coconut growing states and Union Territories. Coir industry has to its credit a tradition and heritage of centuries. It is one of the few rural or traditional industries converting the coconut husk, waste, into wealth. This industry is the largest producer of coir, accounting for more than 80 percent of the world’s production of coir fibre. The development of this agro- based industry is a condition which should be satisfied for economic prosperity as it has backward and forward linkages. One of the special characteristics of the coir industry is that it provides to agricultural labourers. Over six lakh employers, of whom a majority are from rural area and economically weaker sections of the sociality. Women contribute nearly 85 per cent of the work force and it remains as a pet industry for them. Hence Coir Industry is generally considered a vehicle for the generation of productive employment and income for the rural poor. The coir industry in Kanyakumari District was pastrol in nature and generated employment to the uneducated people in rural areas .The industry prevents migration of the unemployed in search of greener pastures and offers scope to take up trade individually at chores. Women could attend to their household chores and put to use of leisure time available in spinning fibre or defibering or making ropes with coconut husk, major raw material, which is available in plenty in Kanyakumari District, where coconut is the second major plantation crop next to rubber. There are more than 50,000 coir workers approximate. Since it has a greater sense of wages for what they do, it does not count the time bound engagement in work.
