Author: Reetu Mittal
Abstract: Personality disorders and their treatment form a crucial area of research in Psychopathology. Many such disorders have been identified and each one of them has its characteristics deteriorating effect on human mental health and well-being. Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is a cluster- B personality disorder, the essential feature of which is a pattern of marked impulsivity and instability of affects, interpersonal relationships and self-image. The pattern is present by early adulthood and occurs across a variety of situations and contexts. This paper discussed in detail BPD. First it causes and symptoms are mentioned in detail. Later its possible treatments and their possible outcomes have been analyzed. A common issue with BPD is that a person suffering from it is more than likely a victim of several other personality disorders as well. It has been found that various psychological therapies available for treating BPD work better than treating BPD with medications. Medications may have side effects associated but these therapies have been found to successfully abate BPD. In most cases the chances of reoccurring are also negligible.
